TrainerRoad doesnвЂ™t use sophisticated motivation elements like Zwift. To wrap this up, TrainerRoad workouts and the app do work (check out these reviews), but donвЂ™t overdo it to avoid overtraining. This is an excellent feature because you are not limited to training indoors only.

TrainerRoad also counts with your outside training. One of the things I like the most about TrainerRoad is its seamless integration with other cycling apps like Strava or TrainingPeaks.ДЄll my previous rides from Strava were synchronized into TrainerRoadвЂ™s calendar, so I could see my training load in charts and analyze it in-depth. A fan will keep you cooled down, a trainer mat will protect your floor, and a rocker plate will improve your riding comfort.

PRO TIP: Bike trainer accessories will take your indoor cycling to a whole new level. *IвЂ™ve been using TrainerRoad with Elite Direto 2 smart trainer and Wahoo TICKR HR monitor. The pairing process is effortless.* Once you pair your devices to the app, TrainerRoad shows a few recommendations for calibration, firmware updates, etc. If it doesnвЂ™t, you may need an ANT+ dongle.

Keep in mind that your laptop, computer, or other display device has to feature Bluetooth connectivity to connect with these devices. However, to get the best TrainerRoad experience possible, I recommend using a smart trainer that supports ERG mode. You will be fine with a power meter, or with cadence + speed sensors. If you want to use TrainerRoad, you donвЂ™t need a smart trainer.

But I plan to use it more once I start preparing for the next season or races and update this review. I admit that I didnвЂ™t spend as much time with TrainerRoad as it deserves.

If it doesnвЂ™t show at this point, jump into your phoneвЂ™s Bluetooth settings and make sure it is seen and connected there. From there you can then pair your trainer. On the Companion app you need to wait until you see this screen with the orange bluetooth icon. Within Zwift ensure the settings are as follows to pair using Companion:

Now launch Zwift on your Windows laptop/desktop and also launch the Zwift companion app on your phone. So to run both, start up TrainerRoad and pair your trainer and HRM (if desired): IвЂ™ve not tried this out for extended periods, so please share in the comments if (and how) youвЂ™re able to run both apps on the same computer using Bluetooth.

(These tests were carried out on an HP Envy 13 running Windows 10 20H2.) My Polar OH1 heart rate monitor does not support multi-channel, so in my testing, I could only get it connected to either TrainerRoad or Zwift. The Wahoo KICKR 18 onwards and KICKR Core support this with the latest firmware. You can run Zwift + TrainerRoad side by side in Windows 10 using Bluetooth, with two caveats: your computer must support Bluetooth 4.0, and that your trainer must support multi-channel Bluetooth.
